An international Jazz artist and one of Kansas City’s most sought after drummers, Mike Warren has accompanied a veritable who’s who in jazz, from Jay McShann, Dr. Billy Taylor, Milt Jackson, Wynton Marsalis, and Clark Terry to Ronnie Laws, Bobbi Humphries, Bobby Watson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Dan Thomas, Eric Alexander, Cecil Payne, Art Farmer and Kevin Mahogany. As a recording artist, Mike has recorded with scores of musicians covering multiple styles of music and most recently has appeared on two of Najee’s releases with more coming.
Praise from percussion icons Max Roach and Louie Bellson was resoundingly seconded by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Wynton Marsalis, who paid Warren the ultimate compliment for the guy responsible for keeping the beat: “Yeah man, you in there.”
Warren has arranged and written for many artists including The Jazz Disciples, Voyage, and vocalist Lisa Henry. He has been featured on the cover of JAM Magazine twice. Mike is an Adjunct Jazz Drum Set professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in the Jazz Studies department and is one of the most well-rounded and creative drummers around, but is particularly noted for his “Swing” feel. As an educator, Warren has taught for over 16 years and has been an adjudicator and clinician for students nationally and internationally.
